HOW DRONES CHANGE THE FACE OF HOME INSPECTIONS

One major area that is revolutionizing home inspections is the emergence of drone technology. Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), better known as drones, are becoming a must-have tool for building inspections. Never, have home inspectors been able to inspect and photograph dangerous, unsafe, non-walkable roofs with the closeness and detail that is possible with drones. While they aren’t a perfect fit for every building inspection task, drones have many advantages for inspecting building exteriors in search of leaks and wear that can lead to costly failures if left unchecked.

An experienced drone pilot can scan the roof or exterior of a home in a sliver of the time normally required to conduct a roof inspection. That allows inspectors to ensure that each inspection can be more thorough. Because time translates into “cost,” drone inspections cost far less than historical manual inspections.

Aerial photography that used to be cost-prohibitive with planes or helicopters is now widely available thanks to drones. This technology eliminates a number of safety risks also associated with “walking a roof.” Because of the hazards of traditional manual roof inspections, the liability exposure has been substantial in the home inspection realm. Removing these risks with drones shrinks potential liabilities.

Our state-of-the-art drones are high resolution camera & video equipped, allowing high-quality images and videos of rooftops and other hard-to reach detail areas of the property with “ZOOM IN” capability. These images record the close-up details of a roof far better than the human eye could ever capture. Drones can sit and hover in place over a specific area to check for potential problems, and they can be maneuvered into areas that the human eye can not see without assistance. Modern complex home roof designs that often have steep and odd angles can now be easily inspected with remote-controlled drones.

Our drones get a great close up view of roof conditions such as leaks, moisture, punctures, blow-offs, tenting, billowing, ponding water, improper repairs, shrinkage, blistering, hail damage, wind damage, algae, mold, age, wear and much…much more. High definition digital images and video can be easily be shared in our inspection reports, so multiple stakeholders can see identified issues with their own eyes.

*Note: It is illegal for anyone to operate a drone for home and commercial roof inspection purposes unless they hold a current FAA Part 107 Un-Maned Aircraft License for commercial drone operation, and they must be fully insured. Anyone who engages in this activity without being fully licensed and insured is engaging in a reportable offense. If anyone tells you, they can do so without being able to produce documented evidence – walk away fast. If you knowingly allow an unauthorized and unlicensed individual to operate a drone on your property, you could be held personally liable!
